Hosts: Olav
and Eli Vesaas, 3890 Vinje
The Vesås farm
is beautifully located, with a magnificent view to the hills and
mountains. The
farm’s main activities include sheep raising , logging and
traditional crafts such as blacksmith and silver work, weaving and
knitting. Eli has been awarded Vinje Township’s Culture Prize. Olav and
Eli produce and sell the popular Vesås-kurven, a dinner sausage made of
ground mutton, smoked and spiced.
The farm has its own collection of old
farm objects and implements. Vesås is also the farm where the author
Tarjei Vesaas was born and raised, and which he was expected to take over
when he grew up. In the old house, surrounded by massive log walls and
unusually fine furniture, he wrote his first
books and prose. The
furnishings are unchanged.
Kårstoga
was built as a house for Ånund
(Tarjei’s
brother) and
Ingebjørg Vesaas when Olav and Eli took over the farm in 1972.
