Vinje
Cultural Area: tradition and modernity
Vinje is a modern society today, but it has also preserved and developed
the traditions which have given the community its identity. The Vesås,
Jordi and Plassen farms lie within the
Vinje Cultural Area.
The area is so named because of its unusually rich cultural past, strong
traditions and dynamic cultural
environment. This is an asset for those of us who live here, for our
guests and for future inhabitants.
|
Vinje's Cultural Area includes, among other things: |
|
• Vinje Church. |
|
• Monuments to Aasmund O.Vinje. |
|
• Many interesting and distinctive historical sites. |
|
• Mjonøy handicraft and cultural center. |
|
• Vinje biletgalleri (Picture Gallery): paintings by Henrik
Sørensen and Harald Kihle. |
|
• Cultural landscape in Smørklepp and Støylsdalen. |
|
• Vinjestoga. |
|
We, your hosts at Vesås, Jordi and Plassen, will also be your hosts in the
Vinje Cultural Area. We will guide you through both the natural and the
cultural landscapes and away from the streams of tourists;
we are well acquainted with
hidden Telemark
where painters, poets, composers and collectors of folk
traditions have found so many treasures throughout the ages.
The three cabins each have their own character, but all are as well
equipped and comfortable as a house: good beds, radio,TV, modern, fully
equipped kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine. The cabins lie at a safe
distance from the road and are close to working farms which have animals.
There is plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities, winter and summer,
including fishing in the lake,Vinjevatn. 30-40 min drive to the ski
centers of Rauland, Hovden and Vågsli. Your hosts offer special nature or
culture related programs which vary throughout the year. Contact us for
more information!
